Affordability of 10000-15000 RPM HDD

Really I believe it's because there is no competition, if other manufacturers started making 10K RPM drives for the consumer market then prices will be a lot lower. People are still willing to pay the high price for a 10K RPM drive because they want the best, and WD sees no reason to lower the price.

EDIT: I looked at the link, those are SCSI you know, you can't use them in a consumer computer unless you have a SCSI controller.
 
I am sorry, I am not terribly familiar with what exactly SCSI is, I believe that's in the same terminology family as SATA, PATA, IDE, right? Also, what do you mean by "consumer computer?" If you mean, purchased from a retail store, that is not the case with mine.

Yes SCSI is an interface just like SATA/PATA, however it's usually only used for high end file servers and workstations and such, which is why they are so expensive. And when I say consumer computer what I mean is basically any desktop for personal/gaming use.
 
Sorry, I kept getting a page load error everytime I tried to reply. I just deleted that double post. Anyway, is there much a quality disparity in regards to cheaper vs. expensive cards?
 
There most certainly is, mainly that the higher end controller cards have built-in memory, faster processors, etc.
