After computer passes the Win XP logo, the screen goes into a black screen.

Okay, I'm really frustrated. The other day after classes, I got back to my room and tried starting up my computer.. but unfortunately, it wouldn't pass the Windows XP logo.. it would then go into a black screen and nothing else but a white mouse arrow. I did try restarting my computer.. no luck same conclusion. I thought it would be the RAMs that I have since I have 3.. I took 2 out and left one in there.. That didn't work either. So..I've come to a suggestion that it might be the harddrive. I have no clue whatsoever because this has never h appened to me. I would reboot my computer on demand if I had the CD with me, but I left it at home.. and I couldn't find anybody with a Reboot CD. Any solutions, suggestions, or comments are welcomed.

By the way.. Safe mode doesn't run either... Safe mode with command prompt doesn't work either.. nor does Last Known working system or something.

You'll probably need to reinstall Windows. Boot off the XP CD, and run a repair reinstall.

I would have done that earlier if I have the XP reboot CD. I left it at home and home is about 2-3 hours away. I'm asking around to see if anybody else has an XP Reboot CD... Other than that.. any more suggestions?

If that was the case then it would post and then say "no operating system found" you wouldn't see the windows logo at all. Sounds like windows is corrupted to me just try and repair if that doesn't work reformat (although you lose everthing.)

I feel really dumb asking this question even though I know a descent amount about computers, but how exactly will I be able to "repair" this problem when I don't even have the CD with me... or.. the computer doesn't even run? I was thinking that if it's available online, I'll go download windows xp repair utility and let it repair when my computer starts up in the beginning. Hummm?
