:( I have just Upgraded someones Pc from Win98 to Xp Home. Everything went fine. After Installation when the Desktop appeared, a message on the screen says " Computer is infected - do not use" I scanned with Ad-Aware, AVG Anti - Virus and Spybot and they all came back negative. I also checked in the Programs Folder and there was nothing suspitious in there. When I go into Desktop Properties, I cannot change the Desktop Picture. All the options are greyed out. This is being caused by whatever this message is. I just cannot remove it no matter what. Has anyone else had this before?:(

Did you upgrade...or format and install XP? The best and most error free way would have been to format their drive, and then install XP clean.

Yes, post a hijackthis log and someone should be able to diagnose your problem.

its your xp disk, check its not scrathed as this could prevent xp from copying the files correcly, the result corrupted xp files (corrupted xp)

if possible try a whole system format
