Aftermarket cooler

I'm currently using a Sapphire X1650 pro 512mb and the cooler is awful; it makes a lot of noise and it doesn't cool the ram chips.
I'm thinking of getting a Zalman VF900-CU to keep the noise down and to keep things a bit cooler.

Does anybody know if the little ram heatsinks make much of a difference to the temperature of the chips because they seem a little on the small side.

Get the VF700-Cu instead, I actually heard that it's better because it's heavier/more surface area (cheaper too)..... It's a great cooler if I say so myself as it keeps my GPU at a comfortable 56C at max (idle is 44C)..... I can't really say anything about the heatsinks for the RAM because I can't tell if they're actually really doing anything but it doesn't hurt to put them on.... They don't actually have to be too big as the RAM doesn't really get as hot as other components might, such as the GPU........

Make you sure you check Zalman's website for compatible cards.........

no i moved to pci express not away :)

i dunno if there's any real difference between the performance of the two cards but i would still go for the pci express one

Although the ramsinks are small, the VF900 provides plenty of airflow, allowing the ramsinks to be effective. It really depends on how effective the adhesive tape is at transfering heat, but I'm sure Zalman wouldnt skimp out on the tape.

EDIT: I do remember, after replacing my stock cooler with the VF900 and ramsinks, it let me increase the memory by a further 20MHz, so they're doing something beneficial at least.

sorry to thread jack.. but how does the normal ATI Radeon X1650 pro 512mb compare the the Sapphire Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb or any other brand of the same card?.. The other seem to be quite a bit cheeper.. Do they perform as well or better?.. do they have any diffrences?

thanks

Usually they perform just the same unlees they have different coolers or clock speeds..... If you are thinking about getting a x1650 Pro, I would recommend either waiting for a midrange DX10 card or get a 7600GT.....

I actually already got the X1650.. I got it for a really really god price. I paid about $60 for it plus I traded my broken X1300
