Aftermarket CPU Cooler clearance issues?

So im using the ds3r, and Im looking into an aftermarket cooler cause Id like to keep my load temps out of the 60s on my 6550. The issue i think ill have will be the limited space in between my stock cooler currently and the gigabyte heatsink just below it (Picture soon) and to a lesser extent, the ram, which is still a cm or two away. Is it something to worry about, or are coolers essentially the same width?

And if you could recommend a good cooler in the 30-40$ range, that would be great :P

For a budget cooler a look at the Artic Cooling line namely the Freezer 7 Pro is a preferred model on an Intel board. There are some differences seen with the usual and preferred copper bases seen when going between different brands and models to consider.

But the Artic Cooling line generally sees the lower prices when compared to another good brand namely the Zalman line. Where are you able to order from? For a look at a few different coolers the Freezer 7 Pro can be seen at http://www.coolerguys.com/840556021407.html A better look as well as a lower price is found at http://www.xoxide.com/arctic-cooling-freezer-7-pro.html

Zalman also sees a CNPS 9500 model as well as the 9700 that will also go right on for the slightly higher price. First you need to look over what is available at the vendor(s) you buy through to see what they carry there.

Another things besides the cooler you go with would be a look at the general cooling for the case itself. The better the air flow the lower the board temps will be. That will play a big role in seeing cpu temps kept down as well as those for memory, video and other expansion cards, and certainly hard drives installed.

Ive got an antec 900 with the rear and top fans, both within inches of the cpu on high PC :P

And I heard the 9500 was a bit quieter than the 9700, any personal experiences?

I'd like to stick with newegg, but I have no problem ordering from other sites.

Personal experience? Does plenty of reviews count?

QUIETNESS - 8000>9700>9500 9500 "Sounds like a jet engine inside my computer"

Overall best at air cooling: Zalman 9700.

Just wondering, anything good thats less expensive than those two? The cheapest I can get for the 9500 is 47 with shipping, and thats a bit over my budget :P

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Intelcrazy recommend should work well. I have used the AMD version of this fan on a couple of builds and they performed very well.

I'm afraid I was the one that pointed that out as the lower cost option many are going for.

The second link posted earlier showed a copper over copper/aluminun finned seen at the first. But those two were off names with no comment to offer. The Freezer 7 Pro is still the best option if not paying the extra for a 9500 or 9700. I run the 900 here too with the 9700.

My fault... This is what I get for reading the OP and skimming the others..Sry

I'm not getting bent out of shape over it for sure. :P

The Freezer 7 Pro at this time seems to be the favored for those running Core 2 Duos and Extreme models. The lower price plus seeing good temps is a main selling point for it. Artic Cooling itself has a good rep as one of the better brands making the choice a little easier. Zalamn does seem to remain #1 if you have the few extra $$$ to spend however.
