Hello all

Wnted to play this old thing again on XP but after installing and double clicking the shortcut, an typical error box for XP comes up.
We encountered a problem while running this program .... blabla :rolleyes:

Yet when I installed AOE 1 it plays fine on XP. :cool:

What could be the problem ?

It is driving me nuts :( :mad: :eek:

It is hit and miss with SP2 or even without it. I remember with Roller Coaster Tycoon, the first expansion and original worked fine, but then we I tried to put on the second expansion, it wouldn't. Just kind of a nature of the beast... (Assuming you've tried Compatability Mode...)

AoE2 is better than AoE3 Anyways :P mainly depends on what area of history you prefur to which of the 3 you like lol.

just keep trying mate, and if you have another PC, try using that :D

Unless you want to go out and buy the AoE2 Gold Edition set, which on the specs actually says "XP"...
 
might be the crack that came with it, been burned off years ago when it first came out.
Without no cd crack it loads up but offcourse asks you to put in cd.
Once crack been replaced with original .exe file it gives me the error message.

Just stating it encountered a problem and it needs to close.
Then you can send a log to windows.

Any ideas ?

are you saying this is a cracked game? becuase if it is, talking about it on here is against the Forum Rules

Yes and no, got a normal full version and then the old one, still the full version gives the same error after installing.

Sorry about mentioning the cracked game.

Both crack or not cracked give same error.

So maybe I should just give up and buy the gold edition that can run in XP then, should be cheap enough I suppose.
