AGP slot missing?

I've had my Compaq Presario for about a year and put in a few modifications to it. When I was installing my new PCI graphics card (ATI Radeon 9250), I saw a space for an AGP slot on my motherboard, and the space for the card on the back of my case, but the actual slot itself was missing... What's up with this? Can I just take a slot from an agp board? Look at the photo, it explains everything:

that photo explains nothing. i don't understand. maybe you just have pci express and not agp?

edit: nevermind i got it. hmmm thats wierd.

ya, some companies buy boards from motherboard manfactures, and to get the motherboard the cheapest, they dont get an agp slot and things like that.

My Compaq Presario is missing an AGP slot also, but, they sell it like that becuase it comes with integrated graphics. Not a gaming computer.

You could get someone very profesional to put an agp slot back on, but you will have to reprogram BIOS

Lots of OEM systems are missing AGP slots (because people who buy OEMs tend not to require the performance of AGP cards and PCI videocards are more than sufficient) :) (and no you cant just "swap the AGP slot")

what if you took a slot of and solders it on?

i believe it would come down to specific chipset support etc... even with a bios update it would be highly unlikely that this could work. also, many motherboards PCB's are used in other higher end products... this would explain why it would appear that the AGP slot is missing

You should know better than to tell people to do pointless things lol
Heehee. I wish i could properly convey emotions and intonations ... you are correct in that it's a pointless 'mod' though :)

It was not a gaming computer when I got it, but now it sort-of is (512 MB RAM upgrade, Radeon 9250 Video, 52X CD-RW, Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Sound)...

Anyways... No PCI express, just PCI.

The space where the slot should be is there, clearly outlined... AGP was even printed next to it (I don't think it's visible, though).

Maybe I should buy a new board with AGP 8X and more RAM slots (original has 2) and put that in.

you would be best to buy a new motherboard. but u must make sure u buy the motherboard that supports the chipset u have...also make sure that if your case is a mini ATX "or any case for that matter" then u must buy the motherboard that supports it. :)

Try it. Odds are you'll have a nonfunctional AGP slot at the best since BIOS dont know its there

Give me a motherboard like that, and a AGP slot and i'll do it.

and for what you said Harry_Lee at least I would have something to do during the summer when school is out, and out of a job(for now, hopefully i'll have a new one soon)

If if give me a bio's chip i'll try to replace that too, that just seems like that would be more effective. If not then i'd attempt to hack it.Might need some help on that part though.

uhh putting an agp slot in there is completely not worth the trouble. buy a new case and a new motherboard and youll have agp. better yet, buy a new processor as well and have pci-e

Might need some help on that part though.
Some? I dont know whether you actually think this is feasible or whether you think you are uber computer god .... but it's really not feasible ...
