Agp Socket Missing on MoBo.

A buddy of mine has a Dell PC and it is missing the agp socket. So my question is where might I be able to buy a socket to install on this MoBo? Also, has anyone else come across this problem? If you need more information please ask. Thanks!

missing?

how old is this pc?

You cant just add an AGP socket to the board, it would mean a completely new motherboard.

If possible get a picture of the motherboard and let us know the model number

its not a problem, it just that the motherboard doesnt feature an AGP slot. is it an older or newer system, does it have a PCI-e slot?

Sorry I left out a the part that the MoBo has the area on the it where the socket is supposed to be it's really weird because I know it supports agp. I can provide a picture and model number this evening. I would do it now but I am on duty.

Trust me I'm just as confused as you all are. I've never seen this before. It's not pci-e the slot is there just the actual socket isn't. I'll try and post a picture on my break if I can then you will see what I am talking about.

From what it sounds like, on the motherboard you can see the spot where the AGP slot would be connected, however it's not installed. The reason is because Dell uses alot of the same motherboards for various PC's, some with AGP and some without. You cant go out and buy an AGP slot, since it would require some extreme soldering skills, and most likely you would accidently connect two or more pins together, since they are very closely confined.

If you did somehow get the AGP slot soldered on correctly, most likely your BIOS doesnt support it, so it wont be able to be used.

So if you really need a AGP/PCI-E slot on your motherboard, your going to have to buy a new motherboard.

Thanks Omega that's the answer I was looking for. Just another reason why I don't like Manufactured PCs. I still don't understand why they didn't just put the socket on the board I guess that's what you get for buying cheap. O well, thanks to everyone for the replies!

Dell doesnt put AGP slots on their budget PCs. None of the work stations at my office have AGP slots and theyre all dell Dimension 2400s. I would suggest a PCI card or a new Mobo
