AGP vs PCI-E

Ya... Sli and Crossfire :D. But as for lanes like 8x and 16x not really... I have 2 main geek friends, one has a BFG 7800 GTX and the other has an x800 OC'ed. The one with the x800 is getting 10 frames less than the GTX!

Maybe it's because he has an AMD:P. However it is OC'ed like mad!

i dont think pci-e cards really take advantage of the 16x much yet... maybe a gtx 512.. i think the 16x sli will rock with 2 gtx 512's, though. then again, i have no idea lol

Meh, all the SLI boards I've seen revert to 8x on both slots, so you kind of lose some advantage there.

Then again, I consider SLI to be a stopgap hack against future multiple-GPU video cards.

The PCI-E x16 bus is faster than an AGP bus, although, currently there is no card that has breached the AGP 8x speed, so if you bought a 6800GT AGP and a 6800 PCI-E, you wont notice a difference.

But PCI-E supports SLI and Crossfire, and the newest video cards are being made only in PCI-E.

Wow, that is a nice mobo, if I had the money I would get it, I could really take advantage of the dual x16 slots.

I was looking at that a while ago before, but $235 is kinda out of my price range ;)

And you wouldnt take advantage of dual 16x slots over dual 8x slots with your video card, they havent even hit the AGP 8x barrier yet (possible with the exception of the 7800GTX 512MB, but not sure).

Yeah, it's a nice motherboard, but it's sold out like all over the world. One of the hottest motherboards out there (at the moment). I'm an Asus reseller and they informed me that this is a super hot item and it's out of stock every where. Had a few requests for that item even though I don't sell motherboards.

You've got two options, all things being the same
1. X800 guy knows his stuff
2. 78GTX guy really doesnt know his stuff

Well PCIEx16 has a bandwidth og 4gb/s ... taking an oldass card like the 9800Pro which has a bandwidth of almost 22gb/s .... yet that card wasnt hampered by AGP4x so it's hard to say thats that PCIE offers THAT much of a platform advantage

True but you can run SLI on a nForce4 SLIx16 chipset (again, not that the extra lanes matter all that much)

Could you?

See my example above about memory bandwidth vs interface bandwdith :)
