Ooo.k so I have a lite on ltr 52327s internal cd burner. I've tried everything to get it to work right, I udated the firmware, uninstalled and reinstalled the drive and it still works crapy. Is there anyway i can upload the results i have from nero? my png files are to big.

What have png files to do with problem? Did you make a screenshot of Nero error page or something? Nero produces a written text log of a failed burn if you ask for it.

Can you give a more technical description of "works crappy"?

Here's stuff pinched from several of my current posts in this forum:

Check ribbon cable installed correctly
Check master/slave switch is set appropriately

In Control Panel / System / Device Manager, go to IDE/ATA controllers, choose IDE channel the drive is on, right-click, Properties / Advanced Settings. For the dvd drive device, "DMA if available" should be the Transfer Mode and Current Transfer Mode should be something like "Ultra DMA Mode 2". If not you may have to go into the BIOS.

I've allready done everything you've listed and yes, the reason i asked about png files was because i had a screenshot of nero. By works crappy I mean the burst rate is quite low 15mb/s And my average start and end speed are completley different every time I do the test. start anywhere from 3.97 to 39.91. I use the same blank disk everytime i do the test. so i don't know what else to do short of ripping it out and getting a new one.

Mac OS X may be right, but you may not get your money back! New drives are not expensive any more, dvd rom $20, dvdrw $30? Even a decent one is the same price as a set of ink cartridges for your printer.

I now know you've been running Nero CD/DVD Speed to benchmark the drive. FYI to just post the test data, open the test html page, copy it all, paste in notepad to lose the pic, remove excess blank lines, copy and paste where you want it. To post large images some people have been using photobucket.com or similar services.

The inconsistency in speed is a concern. Are there other things happening on your pc that may affect the test?

What was the benchmark for an audio cd like?

While the performance may seem erratic, is it actually causing problems playing back and burning?

I noticed derek in your last message you talked about using the same blank disk. I found after running a test that the disk was no longer blank and was rejected by Nero when I tried to use it for a data disk.

The instructions are very vague but could it be that using the same disk over and over is itself causing strange test results. Maybe you have to use a new blank disk each time you "Create data disk" and run the test.
