Not sure if this is where I should put this question, but sure hope I can get some help.
I have AIM ver 5.93861 and have recently installed Linksys wireless g router and now can not file transfer with my buddies or direct connect. It worked fine before I hooked up the router.
Can someone please tell me what I have to do to make it work.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because your behind a router you need to port forward the ports used by aim for file transfer. Do you know how to log into your router? (//192.168.2.1) or (//home).. Anyway you may specify under aim settings which port you want to use. You can then tell your router to forward that port to your computer.. ok? Let us know if you need any clarification... If you let us know the brand and model number of the router, we can help more!

I tried the port forwarding but I still can't get it to work, maybe I put in the wrong ports. My router is the WRT45G ver 2.1. I had contacted Linksys about this and they said that its a AIM problem not a router problem. I'm really not sure about that. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!! :)

It really is not anyones problem, it is more of a security issue. Your router acts like a firewall and will deny access to your computer to AIM (hence, you cannot direct connect or share files). If you goto start>run>type "cmd" with no quotes. When it brings up the DOS prompt, type "ipconfig /all" with no quotes. Note your IP address, it should look similar to 192.168.x.x. Then, you need to access your router settings like mentioned above and forward the ports AIM uses to your 192.168.x.x IP. For example, if AIM uses ports 53600 through 53700 and your internal IP was 192.168.0.3 you would forward ports 53600-53700 to 192.168.0.3. This way, when AIM wants permission to use those ports, your router knows where to send those packets. Good luck!
