Alernative CPU

I have an e-machines D2823, intel celeron D 325 . I want a different CPU, is there an alternative?

I don't know alot about this computer, or any newer computer for that matter.. so any help is much appreciated!

Also, is 325 the socket? how do I know the socket? I'm so confused!

The socket should be LGA775, so look for Intel CPUs (perhaps on newegg.com, if you live in the US) that have that socket. Also, look online to see what the max CPU is for your motherboard.

yes that'll work
btw burgerbob... the 325 is a s478 proc.. not lga775
note to makmillion: that processor you linked us to is an OEM version... meaning it doesnt come with a heatsink and fan.
worry not though, the freezer 7 pro is probably one of the best heatsinks on the market for $25 and free shipping at newegg lol

check it out, i definitely suggest it... if i end up building my conroe rig thats what im using to overclock it! :D
also be careful because its a little big... it should fit in mostly any case though...

I have ALOT of room in my case for a CPU cooling system.

Will the sink and fan from my celeron 325 work for the P4HT? i suppose I'll need something that cools it down alot more because of the added power?

I wouldn't be too sure about the extra room.

The fan technically will work, but you would need to reapply thermal paste.
