Alienware Laptops

hi, right now I have a really old dell desktop computer, so old and slow that even typing in word pad bogs it down. So I want a new laptop, so when I go back and forth each week between my mom's and dad's house I will still be able to do school work.

I want to get a really good laptop that I can use now and when I get to college(I'm 15/9thgrd). I really like the Alienware area 51 m5500(15.5) or m5700(17" screen). Anyone have any experience with these computers? I would use it mostly for downloading songs/videos for my ipod, internet use, streaming videos online, a little photo and video editing and word processing. I want something very very fast,(slow/bogged down PCs is one of my biggest pet peeves, lol). One thing I am a little worried about is, it looks like unless I want to shell out alot of cash it's only going to have to 1.73ghz processor, this doesn't seem like alot but am I wrong? I like to have nice/fancy stuff so thats why I'm looking at Alienware(problem is, me/my family is not by any means rich lol).

I need something thats under $2,000(lower is much better). I am trying to convince my dad that I need one for school(I really do) so he will pay for it(I don't have the money and have no way of getting it).

Also if I get one my dad would put a Wi-Fi wireless internet system in our house(he has always wanted to but since he is the only one with a laptop and my sister and I each have a junk desktop he couldn't justify doing it.)

Sorry for the long post but I thought if I put more details on my situation you would be able to help more.

Thanks!

If you want something under $2k, I'd suggest you stay away from Alienware. They're very over priced products with pretty bad support. As for the 17", I'm sure you can find that model at other boutique shops like Sager for a lot less. You just wont get the Alien head sticking out of the lid, that's all.

thats what i thought but I looked at their site and they are much cheaper now.

a stock 15.4 inch a-51 is like $850 and a stock 17 inch is like $1200
After I went through all the options and got them the way I wanted, the 15.4 inch would cost me about $1,350 and the 17 inch would be about $1,700(I didn't check every option but I did set it up nice). That seemed reasonable. The only thing is I would get the 1.73 GHz processor with either(anything faster than that was really expensive) this seems low but what do you think? They would also have 1g of ram.

go to www.dell.com they got some good laptops and they are cheaper then alienware. and they got a dual core out on a laptop that might come in under $2000.
