All browsers crash

Running windows 7, no specific software recently installed....

All browsers are currently crashing quite regularly, IE8 will give me a "internet explorer has stopped working" message and then attempt to reset the tab I was using. Upgraded to the IE9 beta, same problem, uinstalled IE comlpetely and started again but still the problem persists.

Running Firefox 3 too and that crashes out, just installed Google Chrome to find the same issue happening!

I've run full malware scans using AVG, Malware Bytes and Spybot Search and destroy (all individually, never installed at the same time) and the system now according to these has a clean bill of health!

It seems to mostly happen when trying to run a search through google but can happen at anytime otherwise.

Worth a try.
Unplug you cat5 in back of computer. Might try this first then reboot and plug back in. If same problem then reset the cable box or router. My cable box is phone, internet router. I unplugged the box. Used an ink pen and held in the reset for about 1min. plugged the power back in. Have done this with router also. and worked.

If all broswers are crashing that leads me to beleive its an internet issue. You said your rebooted your router, do you have a modem/router combo unit or a separate modem? If its separate, turn them both off and wait a minute and then turn modem on and let it sync up, then turn router on.

And I highly doubt its a plug-in issue if it happens on 3 different broswers.

Jimmy, go ahead and post a hijackthis log just in case there is something fishy going on in your system.

Not sure if you have it already but here is the instructions for it.

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces.

Thanks for the help guys but it looks like I have it solved, updated a couple of windows fixes and got the latest malicious software removal tool with it. Thought I might as well give it a run and see, picked up a couple of things that the others appeared to miss and after a reboot the browsers all seem stable again (fingers crossed)

It's also pushed me to move away from IE and onto Google Chrome instead so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise :)
