Alright, I got one for the super tech geeks.

Pleeeease!

I got a WEIRD case of internet access disruption that I can't pinpoint. Perhaps somebody out there that is more technically gifted can help a guy out.

The issue is that my internet connectivity is going out periodically throughout the day. I know enough about computers to say that it is not the isp, router, modem, ethernet cable, etc. This is strictly a software issue on this computer. It is an HP Pavillion desktop with Windows XP service pack 3 installed. I use various web browsers on this computer and when the service goes down it goes down on all of them however, there have been instances when one browser or even one tab within a browser maintains activity while the rest go out. (Now, when I say I use various browsers I mean I have them and use them all but rarely are several different ones up at the same time. Currently I have Off by One, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Slimbrowser, and Netscape).

At first I thought it might be a virus so I've ran full scan/fixes with AVG, Spybot, Micro Trend (online), and Combo Fix. Didn't do a thing for my issue. When I lose connectivity whichever browser I'm using basically tells me they can't find the server. The fix is normally simple because I can do one of several things. I can run diagnostics on internet explorer which fixes the issue. I can open up all the browsers at once which usually seems to just force it's way through. More recently I've discovered the fastest fix is by opening up real player (having it go to online guide), opening up windows media player (also going to online guide) and that normally will break through in a matter of seconds and then all the browser will have connectivity again.

The way it behaves I believe it must be some sort of corruption in the ports but I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. Now, who out there is techy enough to tackle this one?

That definitely sounds like an issue with the router. I had the exact same problem and it was finally fixed when I flashed a different firmware on the router.

I agree. Update your firmware and if nothing is resolved, then check into a new router. It's a connectivity issue. Should have nothing to do with software.
