That's $1723 there. If you got the extra cash to go to $2000 you can upgrade what ever you want. I didn't pick a monitor. So you got a good amount of cash to buy a good one.

Well, are there like connectors or pins or some strange thing I'm forgetting, 'cause I'm new to building. My thing is software, not hardware.

Pins? No

You will need small things like thermal paste and maybe case fans.

Would recommend Intel over AMD though.

Wait until July 22nd for Intel's price cut. That will allow you to get a quad core processor for almost half of what it costs now. And don't forget to account for an OS if you need one.

Just to add a couple of things about this build:
Everything i've included in this build I personally had experience with, I can tell for sure that all this is very quality hardware. Everything is from newegg except for video card and CPU cooler. The video card is a heavily factory overclocked version from EVGA 8800 GTX which performs on par with 8800 Ultra, yet costs $150 less, quite a deal. CPU cooler I recommended allows you to overclock your E6600 from stock 2.4Ghz to 3.2Ghz or more while keeping it perfrectly cool and stable, 3.2Ghz would provide sufficent power for your MONSTER video card when 2.4Ghz would actually be a little bottleneck. Main hard drive is a 150GB 10.000rpm Raptor, which might not be very big but this thing FLIES compared to regular 7.200rpm hard drivers, any windows installed on such hard drive is an absolute pleasure to use, and storage purposes I've added another 320GB regular hard drive too. 2ms 22" samsung which's almost too good of a monitor. Nice, quality 2GB 1066Mhz memory. Good looking case and in my opinion the best power supply there is in $100-$150 range.

In other words you will not be disappointed If you decide to go with the system above :)

Good luck

Why are you only getting a 16x DVD Burner? I would get a 20x w/ Litescribe that uses the SATA interface.

And as another poster said, I would go with the 680i motherboard and a Core 2 Duo CPU.
