Alternative to Live Messenger?

So yeah, I'm sick of all the spam messages I get from people not on my contacts list caused by the omission of blocking people. Is there an alternative program that I can use my hotmail id to sign in?

Pidgin has a addon to use with live messenger, if that's what your looking for.

If the add on allows you to sign in to your windows live account in pidgin, then yes.

The two major open-source instant-messaging clients out there for Windows are Pidgin and MirandaIM.

I have used both. Pidgin is by far simpler. You simply install it and add your Windows Live account information. MirandaIM is more customizable, layout-wise, and if you're only using it for one Windows Live account then it works very well.

But both of them can support more than one account, they both support tabbed chatting, they're both great programs.
