So I have a macbook pro and am actually sick of apple... but they just look so aesthetically pleasing... and i dont like the windows operating system.... in any case the question is: what laptop - is similar to the macbook aesthetically and not windows OS (unless they have significantly improved their OS) ...
any ideas? lol

I dont get this, you don't want apples awesome hardware nor winodws, but you dont want a mac? Ok, thats difficult, but possible. When's the last time you tried Windows? 7 and 8 are really good, and you can boot camp that on your current Mac before you buy. Someone else can point you to a nice laptop... but this is a strange request.

A few chromebooks have the metal look of macs and do not use either operating system you mentioned.

What do you use the laptop for? That may help determine what would work.

You could have a look at some of the ASUS laptops and install Linux on it. ASUS make some pretty sleek looking laptops. If you want something thin, then a Zenbook may be the way to go (but they are expensive!)

I know Sony has pulled the plug on their Vaio division, but a Vaio with some kind of Linux on it may suit you. The Vaios are probably the closest thing the PC world has/had to a MacBook, but you can probably find one second hand or buy one of the last models new.

Even people like Dell and HP are making sleeker laptops now...

You aren't going to find much off the shelves, as pretty much all laptops come with either Windows or Mac OS X. Chromebooks are popular, but I know you hate Google so you probably don't want those.

You're best bet is to buy a laptop that had hardware specs and the look you are looking for, then install a flavor of Linux on it.

Yeah exactly. Hence why I recommend something like an ASUS which slightly resembles a MacBook. Or a Vaio.

Here is something on par with a Mac in terms of build quality from system76 (originally sagar) and is one of the most trusted in the business when it comes to Linux. Will ship with Ubuntu 14.04 and are optimized to run Linux out of the box. If you decide to go to Windows system76 does offer the Windows Drivers through the support page.
