I am quite smart on computers, but I just need loads of advice...
The Situation.
- I have a Laptop, and two computers already, I want to Invest in a Small Netbook (Final Choice.) It needs to have relatively good spec, for map viewing, surfing, etc. It needs to be cheap. No more that £400, it needs to have long battery charge and, it needs to read CDs.
Now, I know netbooks dont have cd drives, but I want to know, can a portable DVD drive work? I need microsoft street and tips 2012 or whatever (see below) to run on it. I ask as I had a DVD portable drive before, and it had a cd with it, I lost the CD, and the drive wouldnt recognise (so i pulled the cd fittament out and it now happily works in my Packard Bell Desktop.) I can not do anything that voids the warranty, I am NOT good at networking, I made my own wireless hub out of a router that works for all my pcs, but I do not know anything about domains (which would probs be the best idea if i was installing a cd on through 1 laptop to another).
Also, Good GPS devices? Just tracking, no internet, windows 7 compatible, cheapish, weather proof, magnetic if possible. USB!
I plan to get a netbook, wire it to mums car, put street and tips on it, and run GPS on the netbook (that is why i need to read cds, so i can install the software.) I plan to, in the future, use the setup for storm chasing (i have the software for that.) I only have about a £400 budget for the laptop, £75 for the gps device, and about £100 for any other add-ons. (The software, i will investigate later on, next year.)
