AM2, confused!

Hey guys,
Theres alot of info going around and im getting kinda confused.
Is AM2 a waste of money if you are going to build a AMD system.?

Well, im trying to stay un-biased here (i di prefer intel but here goes). All AM2 does in reality is add DDR2 memory support to the existing Socket 939. In AM2 there are a few bugs and its not the greatest, mainly due to exceedingly high memory latencies. If your going to build an AMD system then the best AMD solution at the current moment in time is AM2, however, Intels Conroe (Core 2 Duo) is being released sometime in the next few weeks, this is a lot better IMO.

Now please dont flame me for comparing a socket type (AM2) to a CPU core (conroe), thats not what i was doing. I just started by stating that all socket AM2 does is add DDR2 support to SKT939, AMD's new CPU's may be impressively good, but as we all saw that benchmark between a conroe E6700 (stock settings) and an AMD FX-60 (overclocked to 2.8Ghz)....... conroe caned it up big style

I try to be unbiased but i really cant say that AMD has a better standing here because to me it really seems that they dont.

Saying that, in Quarter 1-2 of 2007 AMD wil be releasing AM3, this is set to iron out a lot of the bugs present in AM2. This could put AMD in front of intels Conroe, but then we have no idea of what intel will release shortly after AMD release AM3....

Confused, yeh, so am i....

there are quite a few people who are more clued up on the current AMD status than I am, so give it a day or so for some others to post in this thread.
