am2 or amd dual core?

Heya

AM2 is a new socket type for AMD processors. It added support for DDR2. The X2s come for socket 939 and socket AM2.

yea i think he mixed it up with a processor type. kind of like centrino isn't a processor either.
AM2 isn't MUCH different from socket 939. they have their advantages and disadvantages. AM2 procs are a bit more expensive as expected, and supports ddr2 as they said. 939 supports ddr with lower latencies.
939's biggest advantages is probably the different varieties of motherboards. im sure there are plenty of motherboard's out for it... but still 939 has more selection.
dual core for either socket will be the same though, just as single core.

so basically your saying that getting a dual core 939 would be a better choice than am2 because there is more options for it out right now than am2 and hte only real gain by am2 is the use of ddr2 ram...

Yep thats pretty much exactly what they're saying :-) Id go 939, once AM2 have been out long enough we will see bugs ironed out and a wider choice of supported mobo's ect.

Or you could go the otehr way around, and get the AM2 so your more future proof :P
i think that a socket 939 dual core would be more future proof than the signle core am2

the AM2 dual-core's are practically the same price as the 939 dual-cores, so why not just get an AMD X2?

if you go socket 939 get a dual core, no doubt about it... if i were getting AM2 though, i'd get a cheap single core just to last me. there's going to be quad core, and probably much different, better stuff introduced for AM2. i guess you could say theres two kinds of futureproof in this situation then...
how long the socket will last (motherboard) and how long the CPU will last.
if you'd like to upgrade to quad core or something of the like soon, get a single core AM2. if you'd like a dual core machine, but the next time you upgrade its going to be a whole new machine altogether, then get dual core s939. if you want your cpu to last a long time, and your motherboard too, get dual core AM2.
i guess it all depends on your opinion, and what you plan on using it for... just as always with computers :)
