AM2 or Core 2 Duo

I'm gonna build a new compter right. so i want to know what everyone else thinks for like mid-range gaming. i was told to get an AM2 before but now core 2 duo came out so which one would be better?

Definently get the Core 2 Duo if your budget suports it but if it dont then the AM2 build will be just fine.

I would deffinetly get the Core 2 Duo. The only time I would suggest getting the AM2 is if your budget is under $100 for a CPU.

Go for a Core 2 Duo if you can. But a Am2 is fine but Core 2 Duo blows the AM2 out of the water.

Core 2 Duo is better, but more expensive. AM2 is worse, however still very good for the price. i believe you can get a Pentium D 805 and overclock it to at least 3.6ghz fairly easily... and it'd cost you $100 for a Pentium D at 3.6ghz. thats good value right there.... not the best for gaming though.
