pffffff who needs these processors when you can practically by a 333mhz p2 for zero dollars. you could run windows xp if u had enough ram and u could play solitare all at the same time.

i say this only because i cannot afford any of these

this may help you

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2

Also, in meetings with suppliers and everyone else AMD "suggested strongly" that AM2 be fully functional for release and general sale BEFORE June 30th 2006, so i think its safe to say it ill be before then. Then take into account the pre-release dates of the processors named by ghostfacesuk, i think you are looking at a general sale date of around April-March

lol, its strange how addictive it is, but yeh, CSS is better, lol.

Cssource is better because it easy to kill in that game compare to 1.6.

My average score I've got in source was around 47-15

Hey, im on SKT 478 and it rocks, the only part of my system that lets me down is the graphics, but i have no cash to upgrade that, dont knock 478. it may be dead on the markets but its still alive in my rig..... GO 478 !!!!

so am i, s478 and skt A arnt the same gen

what that supposed to mean

was that an option when you bought s478

yea
939 had been around for a while when i went with 478

I didnt know much about computers when i built my first one
it was a 2.6p4 478

then my friend wanted a computer so i sold him mine and built a 3.0 478

im not being a fan but at the time when i built mine AMD was offering more performance for the $ for my needs
but i didnt realize that

every computer I had ever had was a pentium so I just stuck with pentium
im waiting for am2 to come out so i can make the transition

What do you guys think. Would it be better to build a 939 socket system (dual core) in the summer, or go with am2 (dual core)? With the 939 socket, it will be cheaper and it can be oced when it starts to become outdated right? Or is am2 the better way to go?

depends on
a) when you need the rig
b) your budget
everything else irrelevant

Hold on, i though that i read somware that AM2 was going to be like Intel, with pins on the motherboard, and it was going to be socket 940!
Opterons were also going onto Socket f which has 1,207 pins i think!

With most SLI motherboards (Asus ones defianetly) there is a little card to swap over if you only want to use 1 lane. it turns that 1 lane into x16-

You only really need dual X16 SLi Slots if you are Using top of the Range 7800 GTX 512's and a processor like a mega overclocked X2 Or FX
