AM3 Future?

I got the 955 just a few months ago and I am not planning on upgrading soon, but how long will new processors still come out for the AM3 socket? It is plenty fast now I'm just wondering about the future.

Also I just thought to ask, do rumors indicate that the 5870 will be faster than the 4890?

Thanks

Radeon 5 series supposedly is going to be VERY powerful, according to rumors that is.

AM3 will have new cpu's for awhile, its a pretty new socket;)

the 3870 to 4870 was a massive jump, so i would actually expect that same jump again in performance, im crossing my fingers!

I hope so. When the 5000 series comes out i'll get a 4870/4890 becuase they will drop in price by a fair bit i'd imagine.

Will there be something after the Deneb (sp?) processors? In other words will they release something besides "tweaked" 955's such as the 965?

Probably C3 stepping, lower wattage with higher mhz. Then drop to 32nm. 6 and 8 core.

After AM3 socket.
Bulldozer/Orochi core. Or what ever it will be called then.

I hope that AMD is going to release a nice quad-core processor in the near future that is clocked at over 2.6 gigahertz with at least 8.5 megabytes of cache that is 95 Watt or lower.

Edit: I was just looking at the Phenom II 905e Quad-Core Deneb (2.5 gigahertz) processor. It is only 65 Watt and has 8.5 megabytes of cache. I didn't even know this processor existed until now.

Well technically it's not a 955, I bought it as the 550 then fully unlocked it, so I am always changing what I call it :D

Oh ok I was just confused also it looks like GPU is actually at the end of the name of your CPU might won't to change colors I had to look at it for a minute.

im just wondering, how do u unlock those cores on AMD phenom II processers?

The board need a 710/750 southbridge. You enable ACC in the bios(on Gigabyte you set it to Hybird) then set it to auto. That is if the board has the bios update for it and the processor has good core/s.
