AM3 Phenom II X3 720 { RAM question }

I am buying this board:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128378

I read somewhere ( I can't find it again ) that for whatever reason the AMD cpu I have listed in the title only supports ram in groups of two sticks??

I wanted to buy a 6GB ram package DDR3 (3 sticks of 2GB).. will this work? EDIT* Also will this board support DDR2 ram?

thanks

Why would you run 3 sticks to begin with? With 3 sticks you lose dual channel so your memory is only half as fast as it could be... Its am AM3 mobo, so you can only run ddr3 memory. Your thinking of running an am2+ or am3 cpu on an am2+ mobo, where you can only run 2 sticks max of ddr2 1066mhz, or 4 sticks of 667/800mhz memory.
