Im gonna help my friend buy/build a computer. For the cpu which one is better? Over here in aus the i5 750 is only 15 bucks more expensive so thats not a big deal. Also if the AMD is better wots some good mid ranged motherboards i could get for it (im not as well versed at the AMD boards as i am intel)

Any input is much appreciated.

Thx

From what I recall the i5 750 is better. both CPUs are pretty even but the i5 takes it by a bit. the only difference is that I don't think Socket 1156 is as futureproof as AM3. With Thuban (6 core CPU) coming out in a month and Bulldozer (AMDs supposed answer to intel for CPU dominance) coming out next year are both AM3 compatible.

thanks for the input. For the board if i get the 965 i was thinking about a G-B MA785GMT-UD3H. This board any good? My friend isnt a gamer and i highly doubt he will try n overclock.

Thanks

If you are in the uk grab one of my giga 770's lol. That board will do. As long as you aren't planing on ln2 cooling or having more than 1 graphics card then any old 770 or 785 board will serve you well ;)

I5 750 owns the Phenom II. Thuban is just 6 deneb cores, nothing special there. Plus it's only going to have low clock speeds, like 2.4 to 2.8ghz. Lame. I7's will still beat it most likely.

By the time you would need to upgrade to something better than an I5 750 you'll be needing a new motherboard anyway.

Sorry El_gappo im from aus :P I think ill get the 965 and the mobo i mentioned. Ill make another thread in the desktop computers section putting up everything i plan to get for him.

Thanks guys for the input =]

i5 will end up being a bit pricier because of mobo costs, but it's a good deal.
Phenom will be cheaper and it has unlocked multiplier, but it doesn't really compare very well to the i5.
