AMD 3.2ghz Hexcore Vs Intel i7 920

Hyperthreading is completely different. Hyper transport is just AMD's replacement of the front side bus. Intel's is now called QPI.

AMD cpu's do not currently have hyper threading. Hyper threading makes the operating system see each core as two cores. So the I7 has 4 cores, but the OS see's 8 cores and therefore can run 8 single threaded programs at once fairly proficiently. The AMD hex core has 6 cores obviously but only 6 threads.

Honestly, it really depends on what you are doing with your PC to determine which you'll need. But for 90% of cases, the AMD hex core is the way to go. It's cheaper, it offers more bang for the buck, and it has higher stock clocks so if you are not an overclocker I'd go for the AMD hex core.

Have you looked into the 1055t hex core? It's a lot cheaper for almost the same performance as the 1090t.

I agree. The Phenom II 1055T Thuban Six-Core is $95 less than the Phenom II 1090T Thuban Six-Core. That is a lot more money for just a 400 megahertz higher clock speed and an unlocked multiplier.

Phenom II 1055T Thuban Six-Core is $200 at NewEgg.com.

Well the mean thing that i will be doing is playing WoW 24/7 :) haha and whats that about unlocking a multiplier, is that something that i would have to do myself with the 1055T but is already done on the 1090T?

Are you an overclocker?

When overclocking, just simply raising the multiplier on the CPU is a lot easier than increasing the bus clock, which is what you'd have to do to the 1055t to overclock. But honestly, it's not worth the price increase and if you never overclock your CPU's it's really no big deal.

Honestly though, for what you want I was just get a Phenom II 955 X4. Use the money saved and get a better motherboard. I see you chose the 750a sli board, do you need SLI? If so, get a better board instead then with the savings on the cpu. If you don't need SLI, then definitely get the new 800 series AMD chipset board like an 890x board.

Here's the 955-

And here's a sweet 890GX board (but only does ATI's Xfire not SLI)

Or if you need Nvidia SLI, here's the one you want-

Yea i am an overclocker, but i got alienware and then is set to profires
and i got mine on 15% thats all i had to change was the % of overclocking :)

and i need SLi

and surely if i have the money then the 6core is going to be miles better then the 4core, but then the 4core does have hypertransport

OK so get the 980a board then.

You will notice zero difference between the quad and hex core for what you are doing, but whatever you want.

All Phenom II's have hyper transport.
