amd 64 4000 or x2 3800

Yes

Naturally it depends on what tasks you classify as "allaround" (for instance, allaround for a HTPC box ... it doesnt matter while something like a machine designed purely for rednering scenes in Poser the single core chip will do better while one designed for animation in MAX will do better oin the dualcore chip). Generically speaking of course the dualcore chip is superior

i rekon id go for the dual core but for that price cant you get a amd 64 4500 or something like that

There isnt a K8, 4500 CPU.... :) Highest of that class is 4000 which is already being considered

yeh those fx are the bomb. i would probably get the fx55 because the 57 is new and expensive. they are the ulyimate though

you could also get a 3000+ vienice and OC it to 2,7 GHz.
then you would save the monney of getting a fx55, but you would have the same performance

Yes but you wouldnt get the flexibility of a FX55.

Yes but it doesnt mean anyone can.

well... for the next time there wont be any games wich singe core CPU's cant handle. and by the time you need dual core.. the rest of the system will be obsolete anyway.

Id take whatever is cheaper ;)
