Amd 64 Fx-53 Or Intel Pentium D 2.8

NOTE: I am trying to build a comp with about $1300 dollars i have spare parts from my old one though. And i play a lot of games.

I am stuck... Should i get an AMD64 FX-53 or INTEL PENTUIM D 2.8? OR are there any other suggestions?
If i get the AMD i can only have DDR RAM if i get the INTEL i can use DDR2 RAM.
Everyone belives Dual core is the future of gaming but is DDR2 the future of RAM? Do you think DDR2 will surpass DDR?
(DDR = 5ns / DDR2 = 10ns)
What would be the better investment? (AMD and DDR) or (INTEL and DDR2) :confused:

BTW: Getting dual 7800GTs :D

Right now (and for the next couple years) you will get better gaming performance out of the Athlon. You can save a lot of case by going with an Athlon 64 3500/3700+ instead of the FX53 (unless you really want a fully unlocked multiplier).
 
i would tend to steer clear of the fx53 simply because it needs expensive ECC memory. i would be tempted to go for a newer model of AMD athlon as Cromewell suggests
 
Well if you playing a lot of games, AMD would probably be the way to go as Intel is better suited for multitasking and things of that nature.
 
i think anybody would be hard pushed to tell the difference between an athlon and a pentium, the speed difference isn't noticable
 
try to stay away from fanboyism, so being a inel fan doesn't much matter, AMd is just a bit betetr for gaming

well.. there arnt much Intel SLI boards. and those who do exsist, they are way overpriced.

i would go for a 3000+ venice, and overclock it.
it saves a lo of monney, and with the proper cooling you can get the peformance of a fx-55.
however, if you realy want one ot those, pick the fx-53.

fx series only really shine if you are an overclocker and want that unlock multiplier

I would go with the 3500/3700 Athlon 64 or a Athlon X2 3800+.

S939 FX53s dont require ECC :)
S939 = ADAFX53DEP5AS
S940 = ADAFX53CEP5AK, ADAFX53CEP5AT

Then again if you're buiying two 7800GTs, the price of the mobo is prolly secondary :)

They scrapped it with the FX53 and all subsequent S939 chps :)
 
Steer clear from the pentium d..if anything the amd x2 is the way to go.Intel even admitted they rushed the production of the pent d and its basically a p4 with dual cores and run both on a single fsb.
 
i was thinking the fx processor it is surely better than the 2.8 but as the guys are saying the newer amd processors may be better value for money

Well if you look around enough ... you can get SLI boards for free after purchasing a 7800 class card thus negating that issue.

basically a p4 with dual cores and run both on a single fsb.

insted of that venice, your videocards are about, $850-$900, correct? go for the 4000+ AMD Athlon 64

Well the San Diego (i assume you're not referring to the Clawhammer 4000) would be more expensive ... and unless mrfatpockets coincidentally has big pockets, there's probably a budget to work in :)
