amd 64 vs core 2 duo

I think I'm gonna get a core 2 duo 6600. I just bought my 3800+ but I cant wait I'm too anxious and I love building things. So is anybody interested in buying a 3800+ AM2 plus a ESC Nforce4M-A? Do you think this upgrade is worth the $433. That is including a ASRock ConRoeXFire.

I would say the upgrade to Conroe is definitly worth it. Its basically awesome.

Sure the Core 2 Duo is great, and it is. However I find that spending $433 to upgrade from his brand new system to it, would not be worth it. I would only recommend it if he was building a new computer, since the difference in price between what he could sell his for, and the price of the C2D would not be worth it

Exactly. i have the same processor as him and i can play every game out there and it is a really fast processor and overclocks great to so i would not spend that much money on it when you have a processor that can play all the gams out there pretty good.
 
If he has the money then I dont see why he should not have the best. I guess you could keep the money and upgrade another part of the system. Like a raptor drive or 2x1GB instead of 4x512MB.
 
if you bought the 3800 already i would stick with it i wouldnt bother getting the C2D why pay more money when you already got a decent processor
 
I bought the E6400 and the $100 MSI mobo for it. I am building a computer for my grandma and the athlon was perfect for it so it is going to end up only costing me $250 to upgrade and my old CPU goes to good use. And also whoever said that this CPU OC's, well mine doesnt its not stable over 2.66 anymore. It might just be cause of my crap ESC mobo though.

Sounds like a decent deal. Although now I would deffinetly get rid of that DDR2-667 memory.

And I recall telling you that ECS mobo isn't good for overclockers :rolleyes:

Yeah you did tell me but I didnt think I would be overclocking. i guess the call was too loud though, I must get that free performance. I think im going to order the ddr2 800 and put the 667 in my grams pc cause she isnt really a big 3d gamer.
 
is the board in the sig any better for OCing. I hope it is cause its all I was willing to pay for if I was to have food for the next 6 months.

It looks pretty good, although its hard to tell how it will overclock just by looking at the specs.

i know that CONROE is good but why is everyone switching


i will stay AMD for life even if INTEL has teh better processor
