AMD 64 x2 3800 isn't what I hoped for ...

I always run 100%. But I am always folding.
Updating the BIOS is not for the timid. Make sure you know how to do it without interuption or you will have problems.

Now the problem is I was buring a cd and just and I went to the taskmanager and I was running 100% cpu usage. When I got the cpu for almost $300 ... hoping it would do what I paid for. What can I do to perhaps overclock or perhaps run a program to get better performance out of my cpu. I don't know much about overclocking, basically know the basics pc's ...so perhaps laymans terms... I'd appreciate it.

i was dvd burning i believe .. if it doenst make a huge difference ... uhm .. i think i was running msn , aim , fire fox and maybe guildwars
should have set it so the DVD u were burning wus using one core and everything else wus using another core:rolleyes:

sounds like a virus to me. do you do any folding?? lol that uses up at least one core...
yea, really, a computer running slowly has to do with poor computer maintenence more than processor speed...

for example, my computer in my sig (P3 866MHz) runs faster then other people i know who have a P4 @ 3.2GHz or a AMD Athlon 3200+ @2GHz and for just running regular tasks, my computer is faster simply because it is mainted better (i.e. i have absolutly NO viruses, NO spyware, and a minimum of backround programs running)...

Do you have Windows XP SP2? Do you have the AMD patch installed? Do you have the Microsoft dual-core patch installed? Do you see two cores in task manager when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL :)?

Well try to answer these to make us solve the problem easier.

where can i download those cause no my task manager only shows 1 core

wut version of windows r u using anyways?? lol that could cause a problem with dual coreeeee lol its a fairly new technology.

Hmmm..... I am not sure if it will work because they are intented for Windows XP with SP2.

AMD Patch -

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

MS Patch (took ages to find a link - not normally downloadable from microsoft.com) -

http://server.counter-strike.net/files/WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe

They could work however ;)

One more thing to add. Since you do not see two CPUs in taskmanager, your OS is not recognizing it. Do this:

1. try these and if they do not work
2. update the BIOS

yea, open the task manager, go to processes tab, then right click process, click set core affinity o something like that, and check which processor u want the process to use...

I have to do each one individually ?

Sounds like you may have a DMA problem. Follow the instructions here and make sure that your devices are set to DMA mode, and not PIO (check both the Primary and Secondary IDE controllers).

well i am running a dual processor system and i find that i hardly use 100% of both processors-

i can see a graph for both processors and one is always less than other however at the side you have your percentage for both processors.

so if in your task bar you only get %tage that is prob for both processors i have something that might help....
