AMD 955 With 8gb Ram?

My setup,

Gigabyte ma790xt-ud4p
AMD Phenom II 955 BE
OCZ Reaper DDR3 1600 8GB


So does it support 1600?
Can you run 8gb on it?
Should I just buy the OCZ Reaper DDR3 1333?

Read the manual on the cpu. Im pretty sure the AM3 amd chips will support all ddr3 ram if the motherboard supports it as well

Just heard that you cant run the memory over 1333 and you can run 8gb.....


Amd says its supports DDR3

Gigabyte say their board supports DDR3 1066/1333/1666(OC) and they said it downgrades memory 2000/1800/1666.

AMD AM3 DDR3 support is really up to 1333. Your only really suppost to run two sticks, one in each channel if you have DDR3 1333 or above. I have ran 4 sticks with no problem. You just have to go into the bios and manually set the memory speed, voltage and timing. With 4 sticks you might have to bump up the CPU N/B voltage. OC means Overclocked.

No because the motherboard will read it at 1333 because 1600 is not supported so if you get the 1600 it will say 1333 unless you overclock it back to 1600 just get the 1333 it will be plenty.

True, but you won't notice a difference between 1333 and 1600 anyway,
so might as well save the money.
