AMD Athlon 3000 64bit

Hi All

My mate has a old (ish) Athlon 3000+ 64bit single core processor

Now we are keen to play Empire Total War together and the requirements are a 2.4 intel or amd equivalent.

Now the 3000+ is rated less than 2.4ghz, but back then I was lead to believe that it was the equivalent of a 3ghz?

Is this true?

Cheers

Ill look it up.

But I just read an old article about the venice althon 3000+, and it killed a Intel Pentium 3ghz and gaming. Like by 20 percent or so.

Any Athlon 64 3000 754/939/AM2 will outperform a P4 at 2.4ghz. It would take a P4 at about 2.8 in general to equal it. Alittle one way or the other depending on the P4 model.

Ya, you will be fine, just make sure that you gpu has enough juice to power the game well.

Thos things also overclock fairly well, i have my old 3000+ Barton, @ 2.35 w/ no voltage changes :D lol i laugh at how the stock voltage is 1.632 haha:D

The Athlon's numbers represented the intel P4 chip that they were comparable to, so a 3000+ should be roughly similar to a 3.0Ghz P4, in theory. It's because the AMD chips were more efficient - so could be slower and therefore cheaper.

Hope that helps, Doug.
