AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz

You won't get that much OCing out of it and still be able to keep it cool. If, I was you, I would just get a cheap 65nm X2 dual core black edition and then oveclock it. You would get much better OCing out if it due to its unlocked muiltplier. Thats a nice heatsink but its not that great for overclocking in opion. good luck on whatever you choose to do.

What kind of AMD CPU would not bottleneck my 9600gt? It has to be dual core and as cheap as possible.

5600+ or 6000+. I've seen those go for under AUD$130, so you'll probably find them really cheap in the US. I would suggest the newer 65nm 5600+ (G1 or newer stepping) because they run cooler and, well, it's a newer stepping, which means that it's slightly more efficient.

will it be worth the upgrade? I am getting this b/c i feel like its pulling my comp down in some games. Im replacing my 9600gt with a 4850 as well.

You can buy a 5600 for like 80 bucks and from time to time a 5800+ for 90 on newegg. 5400+ black could OC to 3.2ghz if you wanted to but I don't like to OC myself.

Personally though my PC runs everything perfectly I read a lot about the GPU and CPU bottleneck as a myth. yet to see a thread about it being 100% fact. I could be wrong though so dont take my word on it.

I was just wondering since my friend has a E6850 and the same card as me and he says he can run WAR maxxed with no lag and I get slight lag. Maybe its just luck of the draw in card quality I guess.

I have the exact same issue. I have a 4600+ and a 9600GT.

I ran 3dMark06 yesterday, and during the GPU testing stages, it would run well from about 30-50+ FPS. During the CPU testing parts, it literally went to 0-1. I was stunned.

Some games might be mostly GPU, but I know for games like Oblivion where a lot of AI calculation is taking place, it's CPU heavy as well. So for me, my 4600+ is definitely bottlenecking me.

I was looking into 6000+ and 6400+ processors because I like that it's over 3 GHz (and it has larger cache), but I think I'm gonna end up going with the 5600+ because of the 65W power usage. I also don't think my crappy Gateway case is going to easily fit a fan, so I should be able to run the 5600+ without a fan nicely.

Please someone correct me if they see something wrong with what I just said.

During CPU part 0-1-2 is normal!!

My e8400 does 1-2 sometimes 3....and thats o'ced at 4.15

Oh weird! So what's the point of that part, then?

I still think Oblivion would run smoother for a setup like mine with a better CPU, though...could be wrong.

i did some research and even tho CPU doesnt rly affect frame rate it still does a hell of a lot of calculations regardless of game. I was going to buy the 5600+ but now I dont think itll make that much of a difference. Once my HD4850 arrives with its crazy copper quad heatpipe nonsense I will see the true culprit and post back here. That wont be till wednesday tho.
