AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 Temp

So I recently upgraded my rig from an old 478 P4 3.0 Prescott setup to a new Gigabyte mobo and an AMD 64 X2 5000 chip. MAJOR improvement! Anyhows, the processor runs at 2.6ghz stock and Ive got it running at 3.0 by bumping up the multiplier with no problems at all.
Question is this, how hot is too hot for this chip? I havent tried anything too hardcore with it yet, since over clocking it, but idle it runs like 30ish degrees. If I run WoW and firefox, with AVG behind, it goes up to about 40 deg and bout half load on each core. Seems like thats high but I dunno about these newer processors. I never had any luck with that darn Prescott chip, it ran hotter than heck anyhow so I never bumped it up.
So whats a good solid temp, under load, for this new chip? Whats safe I guess?

anything in the 30's and 40's is fine. i usually have mine oc'ed to at least 3.0ghz sometimes higher and mine idles at about 35 and gets up to 45 under load. if it starts getting into the 50's thats the time to start worrying

Thanks! I was going to try and go up a bit more but wasnt sure about the temp. I dont think they are stable past 3.2 from what Ive seen on other posts. You ever gotten it higher than that or is 3.0 the nice solid speed. The way I figure it, thats literally twice as fast as my old setup. I stil cant fathom how I suffered so long without a dual core chip.

yeah it starts to get unstable for me at about 3.3 or 3.4ghz unless i bump up the voltage but then it gets too hot. i usually keep it at around 3.0ghz.

I've gotten mine up to 3.0 so far-not sure how far it can actually go-according to CPU info program from amd---it's capable of 5.0(don't know how though)-I have mine cooling with a AC freezer 64 Pro-right now I'm using a program called Easytune5 pro-it came with the motherboard---not sure if I want to start messing around the bios for overclocking. I can use the same program for overclocking my video card-or I also have Asus Smartdoctor for that also.

amd's website says the limit on the 5000+ is 3.8ghz. but its just about impossible to get close to that. but 3.0-3.2ghz seems to be the ceiling on it
