Price are something you constantly have to keep track of not specifying a given time frame. Someone lately pointed a bundle deal at TigerDirect where the FX-60 plus board was seen for $309. It had been over $500 at newegg and now seen for $399.99 bundled with the Vista Home Premiun 32bit versions at TigerDirect. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...details.asp?EdpNo=2901402&Sku=A64-FX60-HOME32
The FX-60 is the only dual core model in the FX line for Socket 939 boards. For AM2 boards the FX-62 is the one to look at there. While Tiger is pushing the FX-60 newegg's only FX model is seen for the same $299.99 price is the FX-57 single core model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103558
I'm still waiting to the FX-60 or Opteron 185 to drop in price before simply going out and planning another build.
Then you may want a good look at a few 3rd party cpu coolers that outperform the stock hsf amd some additional cooling for the case itself. One thing found on the newer line of boards with cpus these days running on less power is a need for better internal cooling to keep board and other temps down. Need a good looking case as well?
One of the best two makes to take a relook at are the Zalman and Artic Cooling lines before ordering however. I found the larger Zalman CNPS9500 works out quite well on a 939 board with the CNPS9700 being the AM2 equivalent. I'm been pushing loads on the system all day and night lately to see temps down where they should be.
That won't make a difference since you may recognise some of the same models good for Socket 775 as well as Socket AM2. http://www.coolerguys.com/sockettlga775.html The FX line of cpus is for AMD not Intel boards assuming you are talking about making a decision on going with an alternate from the E6600 mentioned in your planned build.
