Hi

This is probably a stupid question but I was wondering would I be able to swap out an AMD Athlon II with an AMD Athlon XP or would the motherboard not be able to cope. Oh and the motherboard information is situated below.

Thanks Ben

Motherboard

Model nVidia-nForce (Socket A)
Chipset Vendor NVIDIA
Chipset Model nForce2 IGP
Chipset Revision A2
Southbridge Vendor NVIDIA
Southbridge Model nForce2 MCP
Southbridge Revision A4

No, it won't. Different socket. Socket A is 462 pin and Athlon II goes to Socket AM3 or in some case socket FM1.

Also, you should know that any Athlon XP is far slower than any Athlon II. Perhaps you need to replace a fried chip, but either way you would be far better off buying an Athlon II X2 240 or something similar on eBay.

Unfortunately, its time for a new system as yours is so outdated. Which means, new memory, processor, motherboard, operating system.

If your just surfing the web, the system should still be more than capable. I know my old 235E seemed fine when web surfing. Some how handled Minecraft better than my new PC which is strange.

^This. If you're looking for a serious upgrade, though, and you've already tried fresh installing everything and upgrading your RAM and HDD, then you should basically upgrade everything.
