Hi all. Just a quick question.
I can buy an AMD Athlon Proccessor 2.6GHZ for £55 and was wondering whether it would work on an ASUS A7N8X-X mobo?

Thanks.

P.S. Are all AMD Athlon's/XP's socket A?

Well, it's an AMD Athlon LOL!

What more info do you need to see whether it will work on my ASUS A7N8X-X? Thanks :D

are you sure samuelhii_mei?

It's just, I don't want to spend £55 and find out later that it doesn't work....

Thanks

No you cant. The only 2.6Ghz proc AMD has is the FX55 which costs a lot more than £55 ... did you mean AthlonXP 2600? If so then it will work with the mobo

Anyone else want to clarify that it will work with my ASUS A7N8X-X??
It works

Prartor, it definately was £55 and it definately was AMD Athlon.
Now that ive had a look at the link I will tell you definitively that it is NOT a 2.6GHz processor. There is only ONE 2.6GHz processor by AMD (stock) made, the Athlon64-FX55. You can read up about it here: http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/processors/amd4000_fx55/ (and you can have a look at the price tag here: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-496&depa=0). The chip looks like this

The chip that I suspect there is the AthlonXP 2600+, you can have a look at it here; http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-418&depa=0 which is consistent with this image:

As you can clearly see theres no way of mistaking; the ebay listing is a MISTAKE either purposeful or not.

As for the chip, its not the clock speed that determines compatability its the pin configuration.

Ok

Ok Praetor, my bad :o

I'm not that good with processor's as you can see.......

As I posted in my earlier post:
Will an AMD Athlon 2.0 Ghz work on my ASUS A7N8X-X?

Will an AMD Athlon 2.0 Ghz work on my ASUS A7N8X-X?
Depends on the processor. If you have a AthlonXP-2800 (166x12) then that will work but if you have a Athlon64-3000 then no it will not work. Like i said, its more about the pin configuration than the clock speed. Your mobo supports chips with 462 pins

Infact, will any AMD Athlon/AMD Athlon XP work on my ASUS A7N8X-X?
No. AthlonXPs will work. Athlons will not (and you prolly cannot get them). Semprons (Socket462/A) will work as well.

Could you put it into a way that I could understand? No offence, sorry :o

LOL Im a fast one (not in bed of course :P). Hope that cleared up some things for you. If you've not bought a mobo yet then you might benifit from aSocket754 setup :)
