AMD Athlon x2 5200+ to Athlon x2 6000

Im looking to upgrade my current CPU to the fastest CPU my Motherboard can handle.

I currently have an 8800GT and want to get a GTX 260 or something similar.

Would that AMD Athlon x2 6000 processor run well with a GTX 260?

I think it's time to get a Socket AM3 motherboard if you really want an upgrade. Going from an Athlon 5200+ Dual-Core to an Athlon 6000+ Dual-Core Processor isn't much of an upgrade.

I would look at jumping up to the Phenom II 550 Dual-Core or the Phenom II 720 Tri-Core Processor.
