AMD Athlon XP 2400+ --> 1800+??

Hi all!

I managed to install XP Pro today and everything is working 'cool'. But, however, as usual, there HAS to be something wrong, lol.

When it POST's it comes up as the CPU being an 1800+ when infact, it should be a 2400+. It also says that the CPE External Frequency is 100 Mhz, when the FSB should be 266 Mhz. I have updated the BIOS and nope, still no luck. Is this a known problem?

My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X-X and I have checked the jumpers, and it is set to default (FSB 400,333,266).

Is there any software that I can download to detect what it truly is?

Thanks,

Tim.

So how do I get it back to running at 2.0Ghz speed, and it saying that it is a 2400+? Thanks.

lol Double Dragon, that is weird!! :P Atleast I know that it isn't me now!! This is my first computer build you see, so I thought it could of happened due to my little knowledge, but it seems it isn't :D

So anyway, here are your screens Praetor:

CPU
Cache
Mainboard
Memory
SPD

I thought it would be best if I put links to the images, instead of the images, so that it doesn't take up as much space...

The images might come up smaller, so if they do -> enlarge them (keep mouse over for about 3 secs, click on the button. I know you probably know that, but just in case ;))

So, are they of any use?

No... XP 2400+ does run at 2.0ghz and I think (?) is the fastest of the 133mhz FSB Thoroughbreds, whereas the XP 2200+ runs at 1.8ghz.

indeedlydoodley!! And it's all thanks to me !! :D

How is it working then Dragon? All nice and stable? I changed it to 166 (or 133, i cant remember lol, i set it to what Spanky Hanky did lol) X13.5 and I got it to say 2400+ and it was running at 2.0 Ghz :D I love me new computer!! Hehe!

lol DD (u mind if I call you that? Just easier on my little guitar fingers :D)

Glad that were fixed now though. Getting Half Life 2 tomorrow, it should run like a dream!!

lol, Doom 3 scares me !! lol, I'm not much of a fan of that game

UT2004 is nice on my setup too, running smoootheee!

aint played that yet. my mate just lent me UT2003...looks nice. my proudest moment was running C&C Generals on High res and 1600x1200 and still running fast :D thats after playing it for a couple years on low res and 800x600 :(

Quite correct.

AthlonXP 2400
- Core: ThoroughbredB
- Clock: 2.00GHz
- FSB: 133MHz
- Multiplier: 15.0x
- Vcc: 1.65
- L2: 256K

The AthlonXP-2400 mobile on the otherhand may run at 1.8Ghz but the desktop certainly runs at 2.0GHz

My story :)

Hahah...ok this is my side of the story. I had a similar problem. When I first booted my pc (Athlon Xp 1800+), it was running at 11.5 x 100mhz (1150Mhz). Then I changed it (I knew it was not right having it run at that speed). Well then I raised it to 133 which gave me 1530Mhz. Well I though (after reading some reviews on my UNIQUE Througbred B Athlon XP 1800+ of which only a few were produced) that psuhing it further would do no harm. I upped the FSB to 166 and whoa! I got 1920Mhz. The temps increased by like 2 Degrees Celsius and I am a happy man. I hope you see the point of this post :).

JAN :D

- FSB: 133MHz

My FSB is 266Mhz.

When I start my computer up, it says the CPU External Frequency is 166Mhz. Should that be like that? or should it say 266Mhz (see edit, it is actaull 133)? Thanks.

EDIT:

It says External Memory 133Mhz. Is this right?

EDIT 2:

I tried to OC my cpu by setting the CPU External Frequency from 133Mhz to 143Mhz and now when I turn my computer on, the monitor doesn't show that is it starting up. I think this is because it is not stable, and it doesn;t load up properly. This means I can't get into the BIOS to change it back to 133Mhz. So, how do I reset the BIOS now? Help please, I can't even access my computer now :(
