How is this sit up?

AMD Computer

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1GHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
Mobo: ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard
Ram: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM System Memory
Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon X1800XT 100154L Video Card
HDD: Western Digital Caviar RE 160GB 3.5” SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Optical Drive: Drive: NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Silver
PSU: Rosewill RP550-2 550W Power Supply
Case: ASPIRE X-CRUISE -BK Black Computer Case With Side Panel Window

It's a decent setup, but its not a super computer by any means. The processor is decent, but the video card is a bit old.

I got the rig in my sig (ha rhymes) for $900 brand new with software (vista).

How much are you looking at spending

Do you have your heart set on that MoBo? Because socket AM2 might give you more options to upgrade processors down the road. The only two items you listed that I have personal experience with is the Corsair Value Select and the Rosewill PSU. The RAM is great RAM for the price...I've never had a problem with it and no one else I've ever heard complain about it. The Rosewill PSU I had worked but it was cheaply constructed and I didn't trust it that much. It never made any noise or gave any signs of failure but the quality of it kinda worried me.

I want it for gamming, but I only want to spend $500-$1,000 on it. Is there any parts that performe better then what is in the set up that I post, but not over the price?

How urgent do you want the computer?
Everyone know there will be price drop for CPU at the end of this month...
And everyone waiting for the new GPU as well...

My rig in my sig will cost me $800 with XP Home and $875 after tax & shipping from newegg. Add $40 if you want a 7900GS. ;)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
RAM: GSkill 2GB DDR2 800
MOBO: Gigabyte DS3
HDD: Western Digital 160GB SATA
GPU: EVGA nVidia 7600GT
PSU: Rosewill 500W
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 w/Side Window
Cooling: ASUS CPU Heatsink/Fan

Will this run a game like Oblivion on the high settings smoothly.
