AMD equivalent gpu?

The Thumb

I just bought this new mobo and now i need a new graphics card.

what would be the performance equivalent of an nvidia 8600 gts with 512mb (old, i know) but for an amd board.

also, what would the equivalent be for an nvidia gtx 460?

I am asking because I either will buy two equivalent 8600's and run them w/ crossfire(assuming they support it, since the 8600's do SLI), or just save up for the equivalent of the 460.

To be technical while that is true. AMD boards play along nicer with matching video cards. Though, My suggestion still stands:

gtx460 or HD 5850(6850)

Not to be mean and say you're wrong or anything, but why would that matter? Any proof? I would see it mattering if say, AMD made an OS and wouldn't like Nvidia cards, but the CPU and Mobo have little to do with what goes in the computer, to put it in very simple terms. It's not like the CPU or Mobo can detect if there is a Nvidia card and like, make it slower. Would Nvidia cards work better in intel boards compared to AMD because Intel and AMD are competitors?

Firsts, No intel boards aren't necessarily better equipped for Nvidia. They are two different companies.

Regardless, it is common knowledge that different models and brands play differently with others. I'm not saying that he's right to limit his choice to AMD because of that, because there is a 99% chance that there will be no issue. It is very possible, though, to put together a build and have a component that the motherboard just won't recognize. I've had it happen before. It was just a little fact I threw in there.

That statement is just not true. Maybe not so much the CPU, but the motherboard you have is going to determine what you can connect to it. yes, modern motherboards for the most part have the same configuration to where your biggest concern is the CPU socket type but still, it does in fact recognize what you actually put in your system.

Besides, I didn't say AMD cards work better in AMD boards, I just said they play nicer. All that deals with is how easy it's going to be to get the drivers to work like they are suppose to.

also, what's your psu so we know if it will be powerfull enough for these, idk what the 8600 required so wanted to make sure.

I just bought this new mobo
Can you return it and get AM3+ socket?
What's your plan? A part at a time? (hope not)

You know that trying to upgrade your current specs isn't really an option, correct?

460 vs 6850 is pretty close. 460 superclocked wins by a bit.

make sure it is a good quality psu like a corsair/antec/pc power & cooling/silverstone/seasonic/xfx, those are the best quality ones.

and i agree with benny, if you haven't had the mobo for too long then see if you can return it or sell it for a good bit and grab an am3+ board so you can upgrade to the next gen of cpus coming out later this year/month maybe.

It's an antec.

And about selling my mobo and getting an am3+, that thought has been in the back of my mind but im just a high school kid without a job so i wouldn't be able to afford a bulldozer cpu for a long time. Maybe santa can get me an am3+ with a bulldozer?
