Hi, am in need of an upgrade. I couldnt decide whether to put this into motherboards or CPU's but hey.....

I am planning on getting an AMD FX (any model, but make it a decent one).

Not really my field of expertise so im leaving it up to you to decide, i need cpu/mobo combinations if you will......?

Thanks

well, lets say around £500 for cpu (i know they're expensive). I havent got that sort of cash lying around right now but a high interest savings account isnt in my name for no reason. So £500 for cpu, say about £150 for mobo (preferably ASUS but NOT Abit or PcChips)

well, i know the FX-55 costs around $800 bran new at newegg.com, but i saw some FX-53's selling for around $400-$550, and some FX-55's selling for $600-$700, so you would probably be looking for the FX-53, try eBay.com, if you dont have an eBay account and since u live in the UK and cant get newegg, i cant tell you where to go.

Oooh its so sexy....... oh sorry im back again. I think i'm in lave with this cpu now, and at just £570 inc VAT. Might take a while to save up but it's worth it, recomendation on a motherboard to do this baby justice.....?

Hmmm

I think a better one for your processor would be this one: DFI LanParty UT NF4Ultra-D - nForce4 Ultra. The chipset is better and beats the Nforce 4 (Non-ultra) chipset ;).

JAN :D

Speed, power, performance, overclocking capabilities..... Why not???? Seems like a good thing to buy, and yes i agree they are obscenely expensive.

In answer to tweaker.... I am an avid video editor and my P4 isnt doing too well. Keen gamer, the P4 is ok at the moment but in a year or two when games advance it wont be able to cope. Basically i want power, raw power, to video edit graphic edit and game. I will still have my good old P4 to do work on though.

Dont take this the wrong way but ... (1) do you think you'll make use of the speed? (2) do you think you'll get the OC out of that chip? (3) you willing to put the money into supporting that OC?

Anyone who does video editing past "casual" knows its still Intel-land. Things only get a bit confusing when you go dual core but i dont see you doing any of that CCE stuff anyways

Wow. Do you actually believe that? Im not saying AMD isnt the route to go but you obviously havnt thought it through (either that or not done your research -- not that theres a problem with that at all.... i love clients like that)
