AMD mobo...future upgradability?

Hi all,

I need a new mobo, and I currently have an AMD 6000+. I'm basically just trying to stick with my setup until 2010 or so, and then I'm going to mass upgrade.

My question is...is there any word on future AMD CPUs? Is a current AM2+/AM2 board going to be compatible for future processors in the works? I know that the new Intel chips are not going to be compatible with current boards, so it just got me to thinking...

If by any chance future AMD CPUs will be compatible, I'll have myself a passable system for now, and be able to upgrade later without a complete overhaul.

Yea there is suppose to be new amd processors new socket new technology that intel doesn't know about yet also its suppose to be 32nm chips. It's gonna give intel a run for their money. I will post more details about it when I find the magazine I read it in. Somewhere in my room. I'll post more info on this when I get back.

I would just get a Socket AM2+ motherboard that works with Phenom 9850 or the 9950 processor without having to flash the BIOS.

Likely motherboards out by 2010 will be taking DDR3 RAM anyway.

I got myself an AM2+ mobo (see sig), but judging from what sokol is saying, the new AMD processors are gonna be a different socket anyway. Guess I'll either upgrade the mobo again later, or more likely, settle for a Phenom 9950 -- which by then, will be a lot cheaper and run about as well as a Q6600.

The new 45nm. Phenoms coming out at the end of the year are AM2+ parts not AM3. They are not releasing the AM3 till next year. Plus the sockets are the same between AM2/AM2+ and AM3. AM3 processor will have a DDR2/3 memory controller and can be run on a AM2+ board. But a AM2+ processor can not run on a AM3 board. That is unless they release a AM3 board with DDR2 and 3 slots.
