AMD NB 2000mhz

I have the Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P board and noticed the NB runs at 2000mhz. Should this be running at 2600mhz with my 965 Phenom?

so it is a limitation of the cpu then... I though I have seen people running there NB at 3000mhz .. maybe wrong..

Well if you overclock using your Bus it will overclock the HT. Plus some boards will have a higher multi for the HT in the bios. Not for sure if this one does or not, would have to reboot and see, never really looked for it.

The Phenom II HT seems to run pretty stable over 2000/4000. The thing about it is even overclocking your not bottlenecking the HT anyway so there is little or no performance gain.

If you want to use the bus to overclock and having your HT, memory, northbridge all overclocked might get you alittle bit all together compared to just using your CPU multi. and leaving everything else stock.

I am getting higher cpu score with the HTT running at 2300mhz anything higher I have to reset bios. It is getting 5800 in 3dmark cpu score I have seen the i5 getting around 6500 @4.2 or so was hoping to close that gap a bit more...

I am running at 4.2ghz and the HTT is not slowing me down .. maybe it is my memory i need to boost...

Well if you want to get more out of, lower your CPU multi. and start bumping up your bus. Every 10 mhz. of bus will increase you HT and CPU N/B a 100 mhz.(speeds up your memory and L3 access). So after a point your going to need to bump up your HT and CPU N/B voltage. And your Memory will need some Voltage and timing adjustments after a point unless you bump your memory back from 400/800 to 333/667.

That motherboard should have options in the Bios to change the HTT and NB multipliers. Faster isn't always better. Depends on the clock speed you are running on the CPU. At stock 3.4ghz, you don't need any more than 2200 HTT and NB speeds. At 3.8ghz, 2400 is about optimal. And 4ghz+ you want 2600.

I need to find a way to keep the NB cooler in order to run it at higher speeds. I can not get 2400mhz on the HTT unless the NB is cool. I wil probably try and remove the heatsink and apply some AC5 and see if it helps. Also going to lap my cpu and cooler as a final attempt.
