AMD Performance

Hi,
I know that AMD processors are given model numbers such as 3000+ which are supposed to compare them to intel processors. If AMD processors have much lower clock speeds then how can they perform the same as an intel processor which is about 800mhz faster? Is this just some scheme thought of by AMD to sell slow processors?

Thanks

Yes the model number is used as a rough comparison to the speed of an equivalent Intel chip. Intel made their processor faster by ramping the clock speed, AMD made their processor faster by having it do more in a clock cycle. If you don't trust the model numbers you can look at benchmarks by 3rd parties (such as www.tomshardware.com or www.anandtech.com) in their CPU reviews they have graphs that show the performance of many processors

ya with the intels it does a little bit in one clock cycle but does a heck of alot of them
the amd's do alot in each clock cycle meaning that they dont need a high clock speed
