AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core gaming performance enhancement

Hello All,

I was wondering if there are any patch released by Windows that helps the 4 processors to work together for better overall performance on the computer, gaming included. I asked this because I had a dual core laptop, and someone on the forums said to download a windows patch because the two CPU doesn't communicate well or something like that. I was wondering if they will have a similar patch for the quad core cpu as well.

What dual-core? There is a "driver" or some other utility for AMD K8-dualcores (all Athlons except 7xxx series) to improve gaming performance, but AFAIK that doesn't work for Phenoms.

its not my computer cannot run, but i notice a lack of performance after I upgraded to this CPU. For example, I play warcraft III dota, and before the upgrade I can al tab in and out fine. However, after the upgrade, whenever I Al Tab in our out, i get massive lag.

No, I never overclock CPU's. I've been in the computer business long enough to understand the problems overclocking causes. I've had it cost me thousands of dollars personally. I'm not a heavy duty gamer. My processor runs every game I have without working up a sweat. If it won't run your particular game properly, then perhaps you could try to overclock it and see if that results in an improvement. The 9950 is not a weak processor by any means - particulary the latest version.

What is the speed of your CPU? It was running at 2.61, and I overclocked it to 3.0 ( using the auto overclock option 15%) After reading your reply, I don't know if im going to restore my overclock or just let it be. What do you think??

I said what I think. If the overclock resolves the issue then keep it. If it doesn't then there is no upside. Overclocking is a hobby unto itself. Some people enjoy running benchmarks and testing processor speed. I don't have a problem with that. You just need to understand that overclocking reduces processor life and reliability. If you need to do it in order to get the results you want then do it. If you don't, just understand that is reduces processor life and reliability. Or if you like engaging in the overclocking hobby then enjoy it.
