So I was looking at the local computer store and they have computers for sale with the AMD Phenom II 940 (4 cores @ 3GHz) It got me interested, I really have not read much about the new AMD processors yet. I ran across this...might be a fabrication by AMD but if it real....WOW they had this thing hit 6.3GHz:eek:

It's liquid nitrogen cooling. Granted, it IS a 200+% OC, but you really can't draw any conclusions about the OCing performance of the chip on air/water from those results.

his point is if it was an intel setup you would be omfg i love intel! intel rules ..and he didnt ask for a rude remark about an old dusty p4 that hit 8ghz :D i love fanboys :D

and plus...loosely compared to one of todays cutting-edge quad cores..

a p4 at 8ghz is probably like 1/4 of an o/c'ed phenomII.

I got a K6-III+ 450 I'll let you borrow, but I want it back. Even still have a super 7 board. It works, but has a few puffed up caps on it. Just dont stare at it in the dark. If one goes it might blind you.

It will be interesting to see what kind of real world benchmarks the Phenom II puts out. Any way you look at it...AMD or Intel...a Quad running at 3GHz stock is great for anything you can throw at it right now.

The computer in the local shop is running a Phenom II with a pair of ATI 4870x2:eek: They have one on display but they don't have any you can take home...you can pay and wait until they arrive. The only issue is...3300 Euro...about $5,000 U.S. dollars:o

Can you even buy them yet? Might be a promotional deal they got

AMD making the 940 a BE model was kinda like shoving a screw driver in Intels back. There you go.:D How much does Intels i7 unlocked run, over a 1000 bucks.

Rumor has it they will be about $350 to $400 at launch into consumer main stream market. For that price...I think it might become popular quick. We'll have to wait and see what the motherboards got and how they really perform.

They must enjoy every sucker that pays the 5 grand for that. Could build the same system for so much less ^-^

I love how Intel fanboys will come in and keep mentioning the P4 at 8GHz. QUADS AT 6+ GHZ IS 10X MORE IMPRESSIVE.

And isn't this old news anyway?

6.3GHz on LN2, and about 4 on air cooling, more with water.

Heck, one guy on another forum got up to 3.9ish with a sb600, limited AMD overclocking knowledge, and a faulty engineering sample! The 940 is going to be able to hit 4 without "cherry picked" samples, and that is crazy.

Now, I only hope they stick to some of the rumored pricing. I originall heard about $235 for the 920, $275 for the 940. If it goes over 300, then I'm going to have to painfully wait for a few months. =/

I have been reading about it today...It sounds like it will be a great processor. Just like what smoothjk said, there are many people testing it up around the 4GHz range on air and stable;)

I saw where a guy was calling it "the best overclocking processor ever made"

I am skeptical I guess...we'll just have to wait and see how it does in the first couple months. I hope performs as well as the rumors say it does. For sub-$300 price range this thing has the potential to steal a share of the market from Intel.

They hit past 8 with a P4... what's your point?
Even current Phenoms at stock speeds beat your 8GHz P4. P4 was *DESIGNED* for high clockspeeds, it has almost triple the pipeline stages over Phenoms and is relentlessly ineffective. Not to mention that quads generally OC worse than dualies and especially single-cores, if the Phenom was OCed one core enabled at a time to see which core has got the most potential I have no doubt it woulda gotten close...
