AMD Phenom OC

i read a lot of the oc guide and it doesnt tell anything about certain models, im running an AMD Phenom 9600 @ 2.3 with an ASUS M4A78 PLUS mobo, what exactly do i do in the bios, what will i be increasing and when do i kow to stop. thanks for any and all help!

The same general steps apply to pretty much all models, just different BIOS layouts and Black Edition processors have unlocked multipliers. Increase either the FSB or the multiplier (If possible) until it becomes unstable, then add (SLOWLY!) voltage until it becomes stable, or the temperatures become too high for safe operation. Repeat as necessary. There are of course more intricate details, but if you take your time with the increases, you should be fine, use Prime95 to stress test and Speedfan to monitor your temperatures. One of the more experienced members can probably give you a better crash course, but in my opinion, this one is decent for starting out. Once you hit a wall, the options start spreading out.

i cant figure any of it out, i cant seen to find these settings int he bios

i found the oc setting and now i dont know what to change, i dont want to mess anything up.

go to "game.amd.com" without quotation marks. they have several overclocking tools made just for amd processors.

I am tempted to overclock my AMD Phenom II from 2.8Ghz to 3.0Ghz on the stock cooler that comes in the amd processor box just by slightly uping the multiplyer but not sure if its going to get too hot. I am a bit of a cheap skate but im going to use the stock cooler for a while. Has anyone else overclocked on stock cooler?

I have a 940 and did my first real OC with some in irc who had the same mobo and it walled at 3.6 i was hoping for 4 but, 3.6 is really go it only took a little over an hour if that to OC it i let it run a hopped up 64 bit version of prime 95 run while i was at work and it ran fine no probs for like over 10 hours. I have never even used the stock cooler it is still in the amd box in fact i'm not even sure if i opened it. i use that zaleman 9700 wich is standard now a days i guess. just my 2 cents.

the stock cooler isnt the best but it is pretty good

glad to know i just might have some use for it if i make a s939 out spare parts. huraay for being a pack rat. :) the new phenoms are of good quality so it doesn't surprise me that much that even the cooler is of somewhat higher quality.
