I am running a knackered old HP vectra 500 series. I have started upgrading the hard drive and ram, with parts i can beg borrow or steal. i hope to upgrade the CPU also. Its a Am486 DX4- 100 although another number on the chip suggests its a A8046DX4-100. I hope to upgrade this processor, even slightyl, and was wondering which chips are compatible. hope you can help out.

There are a bunch of chips that are compatible but they have all been (as well as virtually every related component perhaps other than HDDs, Floppies and Opticals, mice etc) been totally discontinued and utterly abandoned for the last 5 years. That technology is circa 1988.

I think I might have some old T-Birds laying around. I'll look around if you'd be interested in buying.

Since when do Tbirds fit into 80486DX4 boards? Tbirds are circal 1998 ... thats a full decade man :P

Uk

Im based in the UK so even if these 'T-birds' are compatible i doubt it would be worth while sending them. i didnt think the CPU was that old? the PC is from 95 i beleve and you can still buy the actuall processor, so upgrades should still be around surely?

Wait, he's trying to upgrade a DX board?! Oh forget it then I thought It was a little newer than that.
